Rendering

​Rendering is a form of cladding for the exterior of  property. In the USA, timber cladding is the most common option, reflecting the extremes of their climate. In the UK, we most commonly see mineral based cladding, which reflects the stability of our weather. Rendering is a form of plastering for the exterior, and is applied in a similar way. 

Render comes in a wide range of materials and finishes. There is a render for every situation and for every pocket.  Modern renders bring high-tech finishes to modern buildings, whilst traditional forms of render bring beauty to older buildings. 

Choosing the right render for your property, and having it applied by a professional can have numerous benefits for your property. It will enhance the appearance of your home, it will protect the underlying material, and it can add up to 5% to the value of your property.  Rendering must be applied correctly, however. Poorly installed rendering will have a catastrophic effect on your home.

The most commonly given reasons to consider render for your home include;

• To modernise and update the exterior of the property
• To protect and extend the life of the underlying structure

Both reasons tend to come together, as a property ages and starts to look worn and tired.

Which is the most suitable type of render for my property ?

Cement Render
Cement render is the most commonly seen render, and is probably the cheapest material, although in practice it takes longer to apply than some other materials, so labour costs are a little higher. It is applied in three layers, the top coat being the smoothest, to receive paint.  

Polymer Render
These renders are the new high tech solution to the problems with applying traditional render. They contain plastics and various polymers to give durability and flexibility, giving a long lasting product. They come in a full range of colours, so don't require painting or maintenance. 

K-Rend
K-Rend are based in the UK and are highly regarded for manufacturing a large range of top quality, modern silicone rendering products. Silicone render is extremely flexible and water repellent. It is highly durable, and comes in a large range of finishes. It is available in a vast range of colours. K-Rend is maintenance free and will last for 20-50 years, and longer, depending on the quality of the application.

Acrylic Render
Acrylic rendering is applied as a very thin coat over the existing brickwork, to weatherproof and protect the structure. It has various acrylic hairs within it, to give strength and flexibility to itself, meaning its another long lasting and maintenance free product. 

Lime Render
Lime render is the oldest and most traditional form of render used in the UK. Lime rendering is breathable, which is an enormous advantage for older properties, which were designed to breath moisture and damp outwards through the walls, and inwards to be released through the windows and roof. Non breathable renders, when applied to older properties, can be disastrous. 

Lime render looks great on any property. It gives texture and interest, and enhances even the most tired home. More modern lime renders are being introduced, notably by K-Rend, with the addition of polymers to give flexibility and even greater durability. Its definitely a good choice.

Rendering
